When you're on the road, staying warm and dry is critical, and the HH Verglas ($325) will keep you that way. I married it to the company's Odin Stretch insulated jacket ($260), which uses Primaloft Gold Active + insulation. The Primaloft layer is warm but breathable so that you don't get soaked with sweat. Definitely worth the weight.

Many people swear by vitamin packs and other nostrums to keep colds away; hikers and campers swear by Nuun. Drop a tablet in water and you'll get the electrolytes and potassium you need to keep from cramping. Nota bene: Not all flavors are created equal. The Sport strawberry lemonade is questionable, but the Immunity blueberry tangerine is refreshing. ($7 a tube, 10 tabs per tube)

No one wants to haul bottles of water up a 4,000-foot trail--but you absolutely need to stay hydrated. Grayl's filter bottles offer an ideal solution. Parched after reaching the Fluhalp hut outside Zermatt, Switzerland, I immediately filled my 24-ounce Grayl bottle ($90) at the fountain outside. Only later when my head cleared did I notice the "Do Not Drink" warning above the faucet. Thankfully, the bottle's filter kept me saf...

There are fitness watches of every stripe, from traditional Suuntos to upstart Apple Watches, but the Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar ($1,000) has it all, and more: durability, flexibility, and the smarts to tell you when the barometric pressure is dropping and you need to take cover. It's able to relay messages from your phone and is able to take power from the sun, so you don't have to bring another charging cable to keep it runni...

In Zermatt, Switzerland, no matter where you look, there it is. It punctuates the cul-de-sac of Bahnhofstrasse, lurks around the turns of every serpentine trail, peeks above centuries-old, rock-roofed barns. It silhouettes iridescent paragliders. And it’s the reason photographers get up before dawn to catch its mirror reflection in glacier lakes. The iconic Matterhorn mountain.

With the legendary peak as a backdrop, I spent a w...

The annual mobile communications show in Barcelona, Mobile World Congress (MWC), just had another major participant cancel weeks before the show opening on February 24. LG announced it was withdrawing from the conference.

LG's stated reason is to "prevent needlessly exposing hundreds of LG employees to international travel." However, the more plausible explanation is that the company is more concerned about having its employees...

Electric vehicles--and Ford-backed Rivian in particular--got another kick in the collective rear bumper this week, thanks to Amazon.

While the kids were schooling the adults about the disaster that is global warming, Amazon committed to purchasing 100,000 (yes, that's 5 zeros) electric delivery vehicles over the next 10 years. The plan is to have the first electric trucks supporting Prime fans in 2021 and have all the new EVs o...

Ending traffic fatalities is the ultimate goal of autonomous vehicle developers. So every year that the introduction of self-driving cars is delayed means more lives lost. And the calculus keeps holding steady, unfortunately.

Last year, an estimated 36,760 people died in motor vehicle accidents in the U.S., according to an early assessment from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). That number, while repre...

If you've seen one smartphone, you've seen them all. Until now.

Debuting today, the OnePlus 7 Pro is zippy phone with a gorgeous screen for maximum legibility. It boasts some clever features, as well, and over the past week of testing ahead of its launch, I found it to be a worthwhile upgrade, especially if you've had your current phone for more than 2 years and you're looking for a new model to support you on your summer sojou...

Testing BMW's lineup of vehicles on the track and on the highway was an informative (and fun) way to spend a couple of days in Palm Springs. Despite our best attempts, no harm came to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan (well, maybe just a little bit).
